2013 will be an exciting year in Rossville as we continue to grow. As you know, the Hwy. 57 overpass on the west side of Town that spans the rail road tracks is now open. However, there is still construction in this area, so please be alert and obey posted speed and limits.
The last section of HWY 385 in Piperton is scheduled for completion this summer. I-269 construction on the section between the Mississippi state line and Piperton has begun and is scheduled for completion in 2014. The Mississippi section of I-269 from the Tennessee state line to Goodman Rd. (HWY 302) will be finished in 2015. The bridges on Hwy. 194 are scheduled for completion in 2013.
Construction on our new Emergency Management Facility will begin this Spring and will house our Fire and Police Departments. In the event of a catastrophic event, this facility can provide emergency services to our citizens as well as act as a command and control location for any required state or federal emergency agency. The architectural renderings will be posted to the website as soon as they are available. The construction of this facility will be covered by a 100% grant at no expense to our citizens. We are researching other grants that may be available to improve our infrastructure, park and recreation areas. We will keep you posted as we make progress in this area.
A new Long Range Plan for Rossville was adopted last year that will ensure balanced residential and economic growth for the city. Its development was completed with input from many Rossville citizens and incorporated a vision of what Rossville should to be in the future. It will be the roadmap used to ensure Rossville maintains the charm, character and hometown feel we all want.
We are in the early stages of establishing a CERT program (Citizens’ Emergency Response Team) for Rossville. Once established, this team will provide triage treatment to our citizens until city, state or federal response teams are in place. If you are interested in taking the training and being part of this team, please contact Gale Brewer. The safety of our citizens is primary objective of your city government.
Please feel free to contact me or any of the Aldermen with concerns, suggestions or comments. We are eager to serve you and look forward to working with you for the betterment of our Town.
To the Citizens of Rossville from
The Office of Mayor Judy Watters
